Manila

Written by Edward Beckwith on Friday, December 1, 1939

Found that I brought Bolex by mistake instead of Markina & Bantam. They wanted me to take a lot of flowers in color but I could not do it. Took some black and whites with Fairchild’s camera.

Drove some distance with the Fairchilds to a small town noted for wood carving. Results were disappointing and the car got stuck in the town. Had lunch at a small inn. Quite good but Dr. Fairchild had a stomach ache later. I have felt only fairly good.

Returned to the bamboo house and later to Manila. No word yet from Mrs. Archibold.

My extensive wardrobe arrived, total cost $134.00. Prices unbelievably low and everything in general satisfactory.

Dined with the Fairchilds and Hugo, afterwards going to their room, where Fairchild and I discussed expedition matters.
