Milbuk, Mindanao, Philippines to Sangir Islands, Indonesia

Written by Edward Beckwith on Friday, January 26, 1940

Anne got everyone up at 6. David thought I had better stay on the boat and photograph some specimens rather than go ashore with them. Spent a busy morning developing and photographing. They returned around one. David found the Eucalyptus he came for but not much else of importance.

Started about 2:30 P.M. for the Sangi Islands. There was some rain during the day. Went on watch from 4 to 6. Smooth sea and beautiful sunset. Anne brought me some tea and sat and talked for some time. There was a dark sky ahead and in the evening quite a little sea started.

Anne was very much in evidence all day and made a good deal of fuss. She put up a sign in the stern room “Gents may not sleep here”.

The name of the people who owned the Milbuk lumber camp was Finley Miller.

Fant remarked how nice and quiet the boat was this AM when no one was aboard. He said “the old lady was feeling her oats this morning.”

David had severe cramps in the legs yesterday and today.

Last night was the first time I have slept in my berth. It was more airy and comfortable than I expected.

Developed 6 rolls of film today.
