Went out with Marian to the post office where I sent off some movie and still films, a letter to John and one to the Pan Am Airways in Manila enclosing a travelers check for $50.00 to cover future air mail charges. I cabled to Am. Express in Manila to ship John’s sound recorder to him in N.Y.
I then went out with Anne and Marian, bought a tropical helmet for 2.50 guilders, and took material for a kimono to the Chinese tailors. Anne then wanted me to go with her to the harbor master to see if there was any market for the pine battens. While there, Mr. Tamaes came with his car. David, Marian and Hugo and Anne went with them. I returned to the hotel to find everything in my room transferred to Anne’s porch. The proprietor told me my room was taken and I could sleep in Anne’s porch. I objected to being moved with out notice and also to Anne’s proximity and said I would leave. So moved over to the Hotel Myrttia which Marian and I had inspected this A.M. Found deVries and his wife there and had beer with them, but ate in another dining room. I purposely had lunch here so I would report on the food. They had rijsttafel which I thought was fair. We’ll spend one night here and then go to the boat.
Marian confirmed my observation of an earthquake this morning.
Very heavy rain most of the afternoon.
At 5 went with Anne to a few shops. She then walked up and looked at the Myrttia Hotel. Hugo spent the night there.
