Bitung and west along the coast of Sulawesi, Indonesia

Written by Edward Beckwith on Tuesday, February 20, 1940

Photographed yesterday’s specimens early before our start for Gorontalo. Left Bitung for good at 8:30, following coast of Celebes west.

Learned how to play game from Chinese crew using a simply marked board and six checkers on a side. Very good game and easy to learn. Beat Fenton and Daan at it.

David, Hugo and I had prolonged talk about my method of listing my films and then I convinced them that my way was the best.

Coast became more interesting as we progressed with fewer cocoanuts in evidence.

Marian told me that while I was sleeping on deck last night I was disturbed and said “Jesus”. They thought it a good joke.
