Repairing the gaff on the Cheng Ho at Gorontalo, Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Doctor came this morning. David had no infection and was getting on well. It will probably be some time before he can do much walking. One film taken with telephoto was fair of a Maleo bird in a tree.

Resident Korn and his wife came aboard at about 9:30 A.M.

Fine clear day.

Resident and his wife stayed to lunch which was served in the deck house with David lying down. Very delicious lunch.

Discussed plans with David and Hugo. Hugo and I will go on a three weeks trip ending at Makassar. Our plan – steamer to Donggala, overland by car to Parigi, steamer to Poso, overland 60 kilometers by horse to Palopo, auto to Makassar.

Another plan, steamer to Donggala, 10 days in Donggala and vicinity, steamer to Makassar, auto to Pakolo and back to Makassar. Hugo wanted me to film native dances around Parigi but we did not speak of this to David who wanted us to concentrate on botanical subjects.

The gaff is being spliced by Chinese carpenters and will be ready by Sunday.

Fenton finished developing. Good flashlights of Python’s head. Fenton showed them to the Chinese crew. They shook their heads and said “not good”. Fenton should not have done this as they are serious and there is no telling what goes on behind their smiling faces.

Fant said to me “I wish you were going to be on board instead of Dr. Fairchild and the old witch.”

Kilkenney, Fant and Daan would like to take the boat to Sarabaya alone but Anne will not trust them.
