Wowoni Island, Indonesia

Written by Edward Beckwith on Sunday, April 28, 1940

We started around 8 following the Buton Strait north between the islands of Muna and Buton. Only the port engine was available since the shaft between the clutch and reduction gear broke yesterday. The junk is able to make about 5 knots on one engine so that this will not interfere with getting to Amboina. Ted thinks a repair can possibly be made there.

David looked over my negatives examining each one separately. We got into an argument over a technical question.

Considerable rolling in the afternoon and I took a sleep below.

Anchored off Wowoni Island at about 5 PM. David has been curious to visit this island since Mr. Endert, head of forestry at Makassar, suggested his going there. The calcareous formation has similarities to Florida.
