I suggested that when we leave here we follow the south instead of the north coast of Buru, putting in for the night at an inlet 55 miles from here. In case of a SE wind this might not be a good anchorage but the risk was not great.
A very heavy rain came in the afternoon, the longest and heaviest yet. After it cleared I went out with David, Anne and Hugo to get some specimens that David had in mind.
I took a sextant sight on the peak as Hugo thought the chart was wrong in rating it as high as 7000 ft. Observations showed that it was about 6700 ft.
David tried an experiment on a chicken based on something he had heard. This was that a hypodermic of papaya leaf juice would make meat tender. He gave the chicken too large a dose and the chicken died. The meat almost fell apart with tenderness and had no flavour. He will try again with less solution.
