Departure from Ambon, Indonesia

Written by Edward Beckwith on Friday, May 17, 1940

Went on deck for the start at 3 A.M. Rain as we left the harbor and then clear weather. The rain at Ambon was apparently a local condition. Course north west between Manipa and Kelang islands.

Bought up subject to Hugo of his Celebes expenses on which I advanced him 265 guilders. He proposed that we see Dr. Fairchild about it. David spoke to me about it at lunch.

On watch part of the afternoon and slept the rest.

David and Anne consulted with Ted about cruising to New Guinea and the island east. He considered it inadvisable at this season on account of head winds.
