Cebu to Manila, Philippines

Written by Edward Beckwith on Tuesday, July 2, 1940

Ted advised giving our Chinese crew, all of whom were on board, guilders as presents. Accordingly I gave the following amounts and Ah Fook, Ah Gun, Moso, Sam, and the cook 10 guilders, equivalent to $4.50. To all the other I gave 5 guilders. They seemed pleased and satisfied although the amounts seemed small. Taken, however, in proportion to their pay I believe it was enough.
