Manila, Philippines

Manila harbor in the rain
Manila harbor in the rain. Photographed in 1985 by CanadaGood.
David and Marian stopped for me and we went to Am. Express where we reserved single rooms on the Bloemfontein sailing directly to Los Angeles on July 27. I cabled M.P.B. Stopped at the Manila Hotel and saw Doria of Pan Am. Found that Anne had reserved a place for me on July 19 plane. Cancelled it.

Met Dr. Smith and went with him, Marian and David to see his new official boat “Perry,” 87 ft. over all, 200 HP Washington 4 cycle Diesel, speed 11 knots, 20 ft. beam, 8 ft. draft. Very fine solid job – cost 90000 pesos.

Very heavy rain all day, — typhoon to the north. Lunched with Ted and Fenton. Latter failed to get job on “Coolidge.” Ted tried to persuade me to go with him this evening and offered to get me a “girl friend.” Ted drank 7 bottles of beer at lunch.
