Anne is so generally disliked that my apparent friendship with her is much commented on. There may be further complications because she said yesterday she might try and get a reservations on the “Bloemfontein” instead of the Clipper. I do not think she can but I can only guess what the Fairchilds will do if she succeeds.
Did not find Anne at the Manila Hotel but she came to my hotel at 6 after considerable difficulty at the custom house about signing off as ship’s stewardess. She was tired and in a bad humor. She has not spoken of the Fairchilds and believe that they will not see her before she goes. It must be clear to her that she is universally disliked. I asked her to dinner but she went back to her hotel, so I spent a pleasant quiet evening alone.
