Manila, Philippines

Written by Edward Beckwith on Saturday, July 27, 1940

Shells collected my Marian Fairchild during the Cheng Ho expedition
Shells collected my Marian Fairchild during the Cheng Ho expedition. Photographed by Edward Beckwith.
Blanquita Hidalgo called up to ask me some questions about photo equipment.

Experimented with close up views of shells using supplementary lenses.

Very heavy rain and wind.

Went to town and bought some photography things for developing operations. Rather expected Blanquita Hidalgo to call up but she did not do so.

Hugo came in at 8 to say good bye as he leaves tonight on the steamer for Bugo to begin his job. He only stayed a few moments. He said that his father, through Dr. Fairchild, wanted me to take some photographs of the landscaping around the High Commissioner’s house. He expects to come to the U.S. in three years, but said that I might be out here before that on a “photographic job for the Tourist Bureau.”
